A Perfect Debut: Orlando Storm Secure Historic First Franchise Win in UFL Opener
ORLANDO, FL — The energy at Inter&Co Stadium was electric on Sunday night as the Orlando Storm made their highly anticipated United Football League (UFL) debut. Playing under the lights for the "407 Kickoff," the Storm delivered exactly what the hometown crowd came to see, taking down the Columbus Aviators 23-16 to secure the first victory in franchise history.
Led by Head Coach Anthony Becht, the Storm capitalized on early momentum and relied on a balanced offensive attack to keep the Aviators grounded.
Early Fireworks Set the Tone
The game couldn't have started better for Orlando. The Storm's special teams made an immediate impact by forcing a fumble on the opening kickoff, recovering the ball after a miscue by Columbus returner Tre'Von Jones.
Orlando wasted no time capitalizing on the mistake. Running back Jashaun Corbin burst up the middle for a 15-yard touchdown strike less than two minutes into the first quarter. The run gave the Storm a quick 6-0 lead and cemented Corbin's name in the history books with the franchise's first-ever touchdown.
Offensive Stars Shine
Quarterback Jack Plummer proved to be a steadying presence under center for the Storm. Despite facing heavy pressure from the Columbus defense—which recorded four sacks on the night—Plummer kept his composure, finishing with 245 passing yards and a touchdown.
The Storm's offense featured several standout performances:
Jashaun Corbin (RB): Carried the ground game with 15 rushing attempts for 66 yards and two touchdowns, including a dynamic 13-yard score in the third quarter.
Elijhah Badger (WR): Emerged as Plummer's favorite deep threat, racking up a massive 132 receiving yards on just four catches.
Chris Rowland (WR): Extended the Storm's lead late in the third quarter with a sharp 9-yard touchdown reception, bringing the score to 22-6 before kicker M. Lantz added the extra point.
Aviators Grounded by Solid Defense
While the Aviators, led by first-time head coach Ted Ginn Jr., showed resilience, they struggled to overcome their early mistakes. Columbus managed to chip away at the lead behind the leg of kicker Ryan Coe, who scored 10 of the team's 16 points. Aviators quarterback Jalan McClendon threw for 212 yards, and running back Zaquandre White managed a late rushing touchdown to tighten the game, but the Storm's defense held firm when it mattered most.
The Orlando defense consistently disrupted the Aviators' rhythm, registering three sacks of their own and keeping Columbus out of the end zone until the final six minutes of the fourth quarter.

With a 1-0 record and the roar of Inter&Co Stadium still ringing in their ears, the Orlando Storm have officially announced their arrival in the UFL. Coach Becht and his squad will look to build on this momentum as they stay home to host the Louisville Kings next Saturday, April 4.
If opening night was any indication, football fans in the 407 have a lot to be excited about this season.
