Legends Drop in on Jaguars OTAs to Inject Wisdom and Energy

As the Jacksonville Jaguars wrap up the final stretch of their 2026 Organized Team Activities, the Miller Electric Center got a serious dose of star power. Head Coach Liam Coen, looking to creatively break up the monotony of "pass camp" and energize his squad before the five-week summer break, called in some heavy hitters.

This wasn’t just a casual walk-through. Coen brought in a lineup of former NFL greats to impart wisdom on a team carrying massive expectations heading into his second year. The guest list featured beloved former Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, alongside respected NFL alumni like wide receiver A.J. Green, and defensive back twins Devin and Jason McCourty. Former NFL defensive line coach Mike Waufle also made an appearance to work with the trench warriors.

Building a Championship Mindset

For Coen, bringing these veterans into the fold is about more than just changing up the scenery and it’s about demonstrating the standard of sustained success.

"It's really to get our guys around players that did it at a high level, whether it was here or elsewhere," Coen explained to the media earlier this week. By surrounding young talent with guys who have navigated the rigors of long, successful NFL careers, the Jaguars are laying the groundwork for a championship mindset. It's a continuation of Coen's strategy of pointing his players to the "best of the best" to understand what it takes to stay on top.

A Hungry Roster

What’s most encouraging for Jaguars fans is how receptive the team has been. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence noted that the squad has "really attacked the offseason," and the presence of these legends only amplifies that hunger. After a strong 2025 campaign that ended with an AFC South title, the message in Jacksonville is all about looking forward and seizing the opportunity in front of them.

The energy on the field has been palpable. During these 7-on-7 heavy sessions, the coaching staff doesn’t even have to ask players to stay late for extra reps anymore and it’s just become the team's standard.

With more legends like Fred Taylor, Marcedes Lewis, and Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware expected to drop by later in the week, the Jaguars are closing out their offseason program the right way. They are soaking up every ounce of knowledge available before the pads come on for training camp in late July.

If these OTAs are any indication, the 2026 Jaguars know exactly how good they can be and they aren't going to let the moment slip by.
