THE COLLEGE GAUNTLET: MIAMI’S SCORCHED EARTH CAMPAIGN

Hey, Space Coast. We're back in the film room covering the college football gauntlet, and at the moment the radar down in South Florida is showing a bright red glow. The Miami Hurricanes have launched an absolute scorched earth attack to open their 2026 season. But on the Queen Media Sports Report, we don't just look at the box scores—we assess what's happening in the trenches. So we have to ask: Are the Hurricanes the new apex predators of the ACC, or are they merely feeding off early-season easy prey?

Let's examine the massive amount of statistics they've put up so far. Miami started the season on September 4 with a strong road win, destroying Stanford 45 to 6. Then, they went back to Hard Rock Stadium on September 10 and completely dominated the Florida A&M Rattlers, securing a huge 77 to 7 victory.

The force behind this kind of performance is quarterback Darian Mensah. In two games, Mensah has been operating with deadly accuracy. He has already accumulated 653 passing yards, 8 passing touchdowns and zero interceptions while completing 91.1 per cent of his passes. In Week 1 against Stanford, he broke down the defence, completing 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and 5 touchdowns.

His main weapon, wide receiver Malachi Toney, has been a complete mismatch on the perimeter. Toney has 16 receptions for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns this season, including 12 catches for 234 yards and 3 touchdowns against Stanford. And when Miami wanted to show they could fight it out on the ground? Running back Jordan Mallory led the rushing game in the rout against Florida A&M, racking up 142 rushing yards by punishing the defensive line.

Here's the reality: winning by 70 points is a harsh declaration of intent. It signals to the rest of the country that your offense is fully functional and entirely ruthless.

Yet there's a big risk in being arrogant at the start of the season. Scoring 77 points against a team that is outmatched may look impressive on paper, but it doesn't mean you'll be ready for a four-quarter brawl. The honeymoon period comes to an end this week. The true test of trench warfare takes place this Friday, September 18, when Miami travels to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in prime time.

This is where we'll be able to tell the real contenders from the hype. If Miami is to prove itself as a genuine powerhouse, it has to bring the same level of physical intensity and 91 per cent passing accuracy to the entire team. We're giving the Hurricanes' offensive line a warning: show that you can maintain this kind of dominance on the road when facing ACC opposition in a hostile environment.
