Queen Media's 2026 SEC Power Rankings: The Full 16-Team Breakdown
The SEC will start the 2026 college football season with the aim of demonstrating its competitiveness. In the last three years the Big Ten has dominated the national championship race, since Michigan, Ohio State, and Indiana have all won the titles. The challenge is now greater than ever because the SEC is switching to a difficult nine-game conference schedule.
The following is my complete analysis of the Queen Media SEC Power Rankings, with all 16 teams being ranked as the season progresses.
🏆 The Heavyweights
1. Georgia Bulldogs (UGA)
The Bulldogs remain the team to beat since Georgia is returning more than a dozen players, among them the leading offensive players such as quarterback Gunner Stockton, running back Nate Frazier, and tight end Lawson Luckie. On the defensive side, eight of the original players are returning from a defence that had given up only 17.6 points per game the previous season.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide
Following their difficult quarterfinal match against Indiana in the Rose Bowl, which eventually won the championship, Kalen DeBoer's team would like to recover. At the start of August, the Crimson Tide is still working out its quarterback situation, there being a vigorous competition going on as they try to field a powerful offense.
3. Texas Longhorns
Texas seem like a genuine title contender since quarterback Arch Manning ended the previous season as a highly efficient passer and will be assisted by top transfers, such as Cam Coleman, who is the nation's top transfer receiver. On the defensive side, the new coordinator Will Muschamp represents a significant improvement for a defense that is bringing back the outstanding edge rusher Colin Simmons.
4. LSU Tigers
There is high expectation surrounding Lane Kiffin's first year in Baton Rouge, and some experts believe he might be able to get LSU into the College Football Playoff immediately. During the off-season LSU was active in recruiting and secured the top transfer class in the nation. Players such as quarterback Sam Leavitt, offensive tackle Jordan Seaton, and edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen have placed the Tigers in a good position for a strong season.
📈 The Upper Middle Class
5. Texas A&M Aggies
One of the only five SEC teams returning its Week 1 starting quarterback from last year is the Aggies, with Marcel Reed coming back to lead the offensive proceedings, throwing passes to a reliable group of receivers. Should the defence be able to plug a few gaps, A&M might prove to be a difficult opponent and has an 8.4 per cent chance of winning the conference.
6. Oklahoma Sooners (OU)
Oklahoma is in a stable position at the start of 2026, just as Texas A&M is, since one of the few SEC teams to bring back its starting quarterback from the previous year is the Sooners.
7. The Vols have not yet decided who their starting quarterback will be. Midway through August, Tennessee was holding a quarterback competition in camp.
8. Florida Gators (UF)
Jon Sumrall’s arrival has injected massiveJon Sumrall’s arrival has brought a lot of optimism to Gainesville, with the Gators jumping 49 spots in the latest CBS Sports preseason rankings. Sumrall is making good use of the transfer portal to keep the team strong, but the Gators still need to decide between Tramell Jones Jr. and Aaron Philo at quarterback.s Rebels
Following a major period of changes during the off-season, the Rebels are now attempting to settle down. Although some analysts believe that Ole Miss will be brought back to a more realistic level this year, the team still has enough offensive capacity to upset a couple of SEC teams.
10. Missouri Tigers (MIZZOU)
This off-season saw Mizzou make major changes to its offensive lineup. Since they had to hire a new starting quarterback from the transfer portal, the coaches will find it a significant challenge to build up team chemistry at the start of the season.1. South Carolina Gamecocks
The Gamecocks require a boost following their difficult 4-8 record the previous year; the positive point is that they are one of the small number of SEC teams who are retaining their starting quarterback. LaNorris Sellers is returning for the third time and the offensive side is relying on him to recover.
12. Auburn Tigers
Auburn, like Missouri, was forced to rework its offensive strategy and recruit a new quarterback from the transfer portal for 2026.
⚠️ The Basement
13. Vanderbilt Commodores (VANDY)
The Commodores are still undecided about their starting quarterback as the autumn season begins, and although some believe the team will take a minor step backwards this year, they are not expected to break down.
14. Kentucky Wildcats (UK)
The Wildcats also made use of the transfer portal in order to secure a new quarterback. Given that the SEC is introducing a nine-game schedule, introducing a new starting quarterback could cause this to be a difficult season for Kentucky.
15. Arkansas Razorbacks
The quarterback situation in Arkansas is also unsettled. Since going through a difficult period, the Razorbacks will need to sort out their quarterback problem quickly if they are to rise in the conference.
16. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Even though the Bulldogs are at the bottom of our power rankings there is a good reason to remain hopeful. Be on the lookout for quarterback KaMario Taylor, since some people believe he could be the best quarterback on a poor-performing team anywhere in the United States. Last season, in just two games (the Egg Bowl and the Duke’s Mayo Bowl), Taylor threw for 419 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 236 yards and three touchdowns.
