Manhunt Underway: Prisoner Escapes Custody at Orlando Health Melbourne
MELBOURNE, FL — A massive manhunt is currently sweeping the Space Coast following the escape of a prisoner from police custody late Wednesday night.
Melbourne Police are searching for 25-year-old Eric Jordan Jerry, who escaped while being transported to Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital on North Wickham Road.
According to authorities, the incident began Wednesday night when Jerry, who was being taken to the Brevard County Jail on an outstanding warrant, claimed to be suffering from a medical emergency. In accordance with protocol, officers diverted to the hospital for evaluation.
Investigators report that the medical complaint appears to have been a ruse. Upon arrival at the hospital, Jerry allegedly managed to slip his restraints and battered the transporting officers before fleeing on foot. He was last seen running into the dense woods surrounding the medical complex.
The escape triggered an immediate and heavy police response. Orlando Health Melbourne was placed on a temporary secure lockdown to ensure patient safety, though hospital officials confirmed Jerry never entered the building.
Throughout the night and into Thursday morning, a multi-agency search team has combed the area. Resources deployed include:
Melbourne Police K-9 units
SWAT team members
Drones
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office helicopter
Despite these extensive efforts, Jerry remains at large as of midday Thursday.
