Queen Media Sports Report: Halftime Breakdown game 7

The Lead: High Stakes in the Motor City

It’s Game 7, folks. The two most beautiful words in sports, but right now, they’re feeling a little ugly for the Orlando Magic. We are live from a deafening Little Caesars Arena where the Detroit Pistons lead the Magic 60–49 at the break.

After a heartbreaking collapse in Game 6, the Magic came into Detroit looking to punch their ticket to the second round, but the Pistons have brought that "Detroit Grit" early. Orlando is staring down an 11-point deficit, and they’ve got 24 minutes to save their season.

The Paolo Carry Job

If there is one reason the Magic are still in this, it’s Paolo Banchero. Paolo has been an absolute man possessed, dropping 23 points in the first half on 9-of-14 shooting. He’s hitting from deep (4-of-6 from three) and punishing the Pistons in the paint.

The problem? He’s on an island. The rest of the starting lineup has struggled to find a rhythm. While Paolo is cookin', the Magic are getting burned on the other end by Tobias Harris (19 points) and Cade Cunningham (15 points, 9 assists), who are dissecting the Orlando defense with clinical precision.

The Suggs Controversy: "No Foul" at the Buzzer

The biggest talking point heading into the locker room is the absolute chaos that unfolded in the final seconds. Jalen Suggs—who has had a frustrating half offensively (2 points, 3 turnovers)—drove hard to the cup as the clock wound down.

Suggs went up, there was significant body contact from a Detroit defender, and Jalen hit the floor. The whistle blew, and it looked like Orlando would get two free throws to cut the lead to nine. But wait—the officials headed to the monitor for a review. After a lengthy look, the refs emerged to a chorus of cheers from the Detroit faithful: No foul. The contact was ruled marginal or "ball-first," and just like that, the points vanished. Instead of a momentum-building trip to the line, the Magic walked off the floor frustrated and down double digits.

Key Halftime Stats

The Bottom Line

The Magic are losing the battle in the paint and the battle of the supporting casts. Jalen Suggs is providing the defensive energy (2 steals, 2 blocks), but he and Franz Wagner need to see the ball go through the hoop in the third quarter to take the pressure off #5.

Coach Mosley has to settle this group down after that controversial non-call. If they spend the third quarter complaining to the refs, this Game 7 will get away from them fast.

Stay tuned to Queen Media. We’ll be back with the final report after the buzzer. Magic fans, keep the faith.

This is Cody Queen, signing off for the half.
