The Perfect Storm: Orlando Takes on DC in a Daytona Beach Playoff Showdown
June 7, 2026 — It is officially playoff Sunday, and Central Florida is ready to make some noise.
When stadium conflicts with an international soccer match at Inter&Co Stadium threatened to move today's UFL playoff game to Columbus, Ohio, the league scrambled to find a solution. Thankfully, they pulled through. Today at 3:00 p.m. ET, the Orlando Storm (8-2) will host the DC Defenders (5-5) right down the road at Daytona Stadium in Daytona Beach. Keeping this game in our backyard preserves a massive home-field advantage for a team that has flat-out dominated the regular season.
If the Storm are going to punch their ticket to the United Bowl, it’s going to take a complete performance in all three phases against a gritty Defenders squad. Here is a breakdown of the key difference-makers who need to show up today.
The Offensive Engine
Orlando’s offense has been an absolute juggernaut this spring, and it all starts with the trio driving the attack.
Jack Plummer (QB): You cannot talk about the 2026 Storm without talking about their signal-caller. Plummer earned All-UFL honors by leading the entire league with 2,188 passing yards. He reads the field like a veteran, gets the ball out quickly, and has been the undisputed maestro of this high-flying offense. If Plummer finds his rhythm early, DC is in for a long afternoon.
Chris Rowland (WR): Rowland isn't just a reliable target; he is a human highlight reel. Earning All-UFL honors at both wide receiver and kick returner, Rowland is a dual-threat weapon who can flip the field on special teams or take a screen pass to the house. His elite separation speed makes him Plummer's ultimate safety blanket.
Jashaun Corbin (RB): While the passing game gets the headlines, Corbin is the physical bruiser who keeps defenses honest. DC boasts a heavy, physical rushing attack, and the Storm will need to control the clock themselves. Corbin’s ability to fight through contact and move the chains on first and second down is the key to setting up Plummer’s deep shots.
The Defensive Anchor
DC lost their starting quarterback Jordan Ta'amu to a knee injury earlier this year, forcing them to rely heavily on a ground-and-pound identity. To win today, Orlando's defense has to win the battle in the trenches.
Issiah Buggs (DT): The anchor of the defensive line. Buggs was named an All-UFL Defensive Tackle for a reason—he is a brick wall in the A-gap. Against a run-heavy DC offense, Buggs has to command double teams and clog the interior lanes so the linebackers can flow to the ball unblocked.
Keshawn Banks (DE): While Buggs handles the middle, Banks brings the heat off the edge. Banks has been relentless all season, collapsing the pocket and forcing opposing quarterbacks into rushed decisions. If he can set the edge against DC's outside rushing attack and pin his ears back on third down, it will severely limit the Defenders' playbook.
Meesh Powell (DB): With the front four bringing the pressure, Powell is the ball-hawk waiting to capitalize in the secondary. Known for his tremendous instincts and open-field tackling, Powell will be crucial today in both run support and shutting down any explosive passing attempts from DC's backup quarterback Jason Bean. If the defensive line forces a bad throw, expect Powell to be the guy coming down with the interception.
The Prediction: The Defenders are going to try and slow this game down, run the football, and keep Jack Plummer on the sideline. But the Storm have too much firepower and are riding a five-game winning streak. With the Daytona crowd behind them, Orlando’s defense will force a couple of key turnovers, and the offense will do the rest.
Enjoy the game, Orlando. The United Bowl is just four quarters away.
